GSG 522

I'm thinking about picking up a GSG 522 wondering if anybody has some comments about them reliability accuracy which ammo shoots better out of it so on and so forth

I've seen a couple of guys shooting them, they seemed to like them a lot. Honestly it seemed more like a spray & pray type gun than a particularly accurate one from the way they were using them but they did look like they were having fun!

I have two of them. Here it is in a nutshell. Higher velocity rounds run smooth. I'm afraid to shoot it much becuause cleaning it is an all day bang your head against the wall over engineered nightmare of tiny little pieces that you need a complete tool kit to assemble it back with the help of YouTube and a prescription of zanax.

Have you ever tried flooding it with solvent and letting it sit for a bit before hosing it out with HOT water? We used to clean our M16's like that and it worked great, I clean all my semi auto's in the sink and when I get a bunch of grunge in any other gun it gets sink treatment too. The thing to be careful of is that you use hot enough water that it will evaporate out of the action and/or hose it out with some kind of solvent or oil afterwards.

I have....After a few full tear downs I simply don't shoot them enough to have to do it again. I just give the bolt section a good spray down then blow it out with compressed air. Oil it up and put it back together.

Gun hygiene is important, especially in a 22 autoloader.  I think rimfire ammo manufacturers look for the dirtiest powder they can get.  One guy I know that shoots squirrels (Ground type) with his 10-22 says he shoots until the action gets sticky, and sprays it with Ballistol, and keeps on shooting.  Cowboy Action shooters swear by Ballistol as doing the best job of cutting black powder residue, too.
